Name given to the 44th Bomb Group (Heavy) based at Shipdam, Norfolk,  during WW2
Famed for pool playing in the airfield mess, the crews chalked a number 8 on the   last bomb in the bay. Its release, like sinking the 8 ball in pool, signified job  done. more info
